Germany – Serbia
Chamber Music / Literature / Sound Pieces
Patron: Dr. Gertraud Burkert, First Mayor of the City of Munich
A project by musica femina münchen e.V., supported by the Department of Arts and Culture of the City of Munich.
This project explores the encounter between the cultural spheres of Germany and Serbia. Through music and literature, different artistic perspectives are brought into dialogue and made accessible to the audience. Questions of integration, memory, and the experience of war form an important thematic background.
At the heart of the program are chamber music works by German and Serbian women composers. These are complemented by sound pieces, literary texts reflecting encounters between German and Serbian writers, as well as interviews that offer insights into a politically dynamic and rapidly changing present.
The result is a multifaceted artistic project in which music, language, and personal voices intertwine to create a shared space of reflection and artistic experience.

After a long period of preparation, the event Encounters: Germany–Serbia recently took place in Munich. The project was initiated by the composer and flutist Dijana Bošković and supported by the Department of Arts and Culture of the City of Munich as well as the association musica femina münchen e.V. The patron of the project was Dr. Gertraud Burkert, former mayor of Munich.
The Black Box hall at the Gasteig Cultural Center was nearly full, with a predominantly German audience. The evening opened with greetings from Dr. Gertraud Burkert, who expressed her best wishes to the association musica femina münchen and to the Serbian community in Munich.
A highlight of the concert was Dijana Boškovic's Suite after Serbian Folk Melodies, performed by cellist Jessica Kuhn and violinist Ferenc Koelce. The chamber work combines elements of Serbian folk music with a contemporary musical language. The piece was among several works premiered that evening, alongside compositions by Vera Stanojević, Dorothee Eberhardt, and Ruth Schonthal.
The instrumental works were performed by the Versus Vox Ensemble (Munich): Christophe Gördes (clarinet), Elina Goto (percussion), Dijana Bošković (flute), and Helmut Schmitt (piano). The program was further enriched by sound pieces by Tanja Gronde, based on interviews with people from Serbia and Germany on themes such as integration, everyday life, and experiences of war.
Actress Olivera Lukas contributed readings of texts by German and Serbian writers and engaged the audience in a lively discussion on the themes of home and everyday life in Germany and Serbia.
